British funnyman Graham Norton has condemned actor Kevin Spacey for accusing broadcaster the BBC of unfairly promoting West End musicals. The 21 star - who now runs London's Old Vic Theatre - criticized the BBC last month for airing reality TV show talent contests, insisting they put people off going to the theater.
But Norton - who fronts such talent search shows as How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? and I'd Do Anything - claims it's Spacey's plays that are less appealing.
He told British Radio 1's Newsbeat, "Maybe he should put a musical on and people will go to see that. In the end, he is right - we are promoting the fact that Oliver is going to be on in the West End. But equally, every week we feature lots of musicals on the show and I don't think our show means you can't bring back Play For Today."
