In case anyone was unaware, the guest star this week for "Medium" was Rosanna Arquette, and she is the older sister of lead star Patricia Arquette. If it wasn't already common knowledge and publicized heavily by NBC in the previews, it might have been obvious by the constant references to her beauty during the episode. Suck up to Rosanna lately, Patricia? If the show you work for can just shower her with flattering compliments, you will totally win the battle with your other siblings to be the favorite.

The episode was titled "Lady Killer," and the audience found out why within the first five minutes. Allison has a dream in which a beautiful older woman casually instructs her on how to seduce younger men and then kill them. When the first victim is found killed exactly as she dreamed, and then a second one is creatively murdered with a nail gun, Allison starts to suspect that her dream woman is a real serial killer.

Scanlon is on the case, but once he actually finds Ms. Todd the black widow it becomes clear she is no murderer. Just a cheesy self-help "cougar" who helps older women get a little bit of fun in their lives. So who exactly is using her book to cause these heinous murders? The answer to that is strangely amusing, as Scanlon finds out by the end of the episode, mostly because he is targeted as the next victim.

Also, Devalos' campaign for District Attorney is going very well, and instead of running from his connection to Allison he wants to make her a public figure. She agrees to go to one of his big events and meet his contributors. At the dinner he openly states what she does for him and that she is his 'secret weapon.' Allison charms everyone, and the evening goes very well except when she meets one of his chief contributors - and friends - she has a vision of him meeting with evil DA Van Dyke. Devalos looks into it and finds out that the donor was corrupt and negotiated a deal with the DA to let Devalos get the bad publicity for his dirty money. Crisis averted...for now!

On the personal side, there was very little. Marie got an ear infection, which Joe caught. Not much was said about Joe's endeavor into his own business, but this will be brought into more focus in the upcoming episodes.

It was disappointing that Rosanna did not turn out to be the murderer, and she was much more interesting as the dream-cougar than the real one. As a writer she was opportunistic, soulless, and slightly cliché. As a dream killer, she was more invigorating and charming, which makes one wonder if Rosanna's just more talented at playing evil than average. The sisters shared very little time together on the screen, and it might have been more interesting had they faced off as enemies.

The best moments of this episode involved Manny Devalos. It was stated in the earlier reviews that without him the show dipped in quality, and in this it shows exactly why. Devalos is a grounded man of character and intelligence, but what makes him essential to the plot of "Medium" is his strong faith in Allison. She had a hard year with coming out as a psychic, and his job was lost in part because of it, but instead of forcing her to hide, he wanted her to come out into the open. He is proud to have her on his team, and because of that he validates her hard work and determination.

All of the main characters - even Allison herself - constantly doubt her gifts, but not Devalos. When she tells him his donor friend met with the evil DA, he believes her without question, and it saves him from ruin. Allison's world is a better place with Devalos in it, and hopefully it will stay that way for a long time.

Kelly Preston will be guest starring on "Medium" for the next four episodes, and she will be helping Joe start up his business. She will also cause friction between him and Allison, because obviously what the show needs more of is angst. Sigh.
