Journalist Responds To Manager's Allegations Over Young Buck Royalty Story

Young BuckThe reporter who alleged rapper Young Buck has not received any royalty payments from his work with 50 Cent's G-Unit Records is standing by his article, insisting he has the proof to back up the claims.

The "Shorty Wanna Ride" rapper, real name David Darnell Brown, was quoted in an interview with Yo! Raps Magazine bemoaning the fact he'd "never seen a royalty check" since signing with the imprint - despite releasing his two albums, 2004's Straight Outta Cashville and 2007's Buck The World, on the label.

His manager Sha Money XL blasted the reports earlier this week, insisting the quotes had been fabricated.

He said: "I, as Buck's manager and as former President of G-Unit Records, want to make it clear: that is false. Young Buck has cleared over $10 million dollars working under 50 Cent's and my guidance. We don't know if a writer waited two months on the interview to stir up some new drama or just took his words wrong, but Buck is waving the G-Unit flag strong."

But journalist Quinton Hatfield has responded to the verbal attack and defended his article.

In a statement, he says: "The interview was published within two weeks after I interviewed Young Buck, which is standard. I asked him how he felt about his last album Straight Outta Cashville in comparison to his latest effort, Buck The World, and he brought up show money. So naturally, I asked him - is the show money that good? And that is when he said it was and that he hasn't ever received a royalty check from G-Unit. That was something he felt he needed to get off his chest as an artist.

"I can't speak for other journalists but in this instance though, what I reported is not a rumour. That is something he wanted to get off his chest. I can see if I was instigating the situation by asking a question like - I heard you didn't get any royalties from 50, is that true? But I didn't mention anything of the sort. Young Buck took the interview in that direction and I have the audio file to prove what Young Buck said."
