Slash has dismissed reports his band Velvet Revolver are to support Led Zeppelin on an upcoming tour, insisting bassist Duff McKagan's comments had been misconstrued.

Zeppelin reformed in December for a one-off tribute concert in London after a 27-year absence, and despite massive demand, the band have refused to confirm whether they are planning any more live dates.

But McKagan recently offered the strongest hint yet that Led Zeppelin will be embarking on a world tour, after revealing Velvet Revolver had landed the prestigious role of opening the shows.

He told Blabbermouth.net, "I understand that we have it, although I imagine there will be plenty of bands prepared to kick and punch us out of the way for the privilege!"

However, McKagan's bandmate Slash claims Velvet Revolver have very different plans for the rest of the year - when Led Zeppelin are rumored to be preparing to tour.

He says, "There's been a huge rumor going arond about us opening for them and I think that was something that was taken out of context."

And the legendary guitarist is adamant that if the Robert Plant-fronted group is to hit the road, it won't be for a while yet.

He adds, "As far as Zeppelin doing a tour, that remains to be seen. I saw Robert last night and he's got his solo thing going on and as far as Velvet Revolver is concerned, we've got another record to do and we're not even thinking about that."

Velvet Revolver's future as a band has also been thrown into doubt after singer Scott Weiland claimed midway through a gig last week that the band's current tour will be its last.
