'Dancing with the Stars' Premiere Part 2: Ladies Night
March 19th, 2008 9:18am EDT
On Tuesday's episode of "Dancing With The Stars" they started out by reintroducing the competitors, for the three of you who didn't watch Monday night. At least we didn't have to sit through another random dancing scene, but I was left wondering what they're going to do to fill time - clips from Monday night, of course.
I noticed Steve Guttenberg got 666, creepy. Since I have the mutant power to remember what happened Monday night I started to zone out a bit. Len was in a good mood the night before, but apparently he was grumpy on Tuesday. Good thing he is professional enough to let us know this will affect his scoring. We got to our first dance, and it only took one commercial break!
She's so gosh darn pretty, and Derek says this is the kiss of death. We got a cute little montage of her wearing her heels everywhere she goes. Oh, that doesn't look staged at all. Since she was the first girl to perform I really had nothing else to look forward to afterwards (no offense to the other ladies). She is like six feet of legs, no complaints on this end! Len dissed her leg movement, while Bruno called her a minx, and Carrie Ann was clearly jealous but hiding it well. Shannon was so modest, saying she messed up, nobody else could tell.
Monica wants to be a girly girl and sees this as her perfect chance. I'm happy for Jonathan, who was saddled with Marie Osmond last season. He at least gets someone who won't pass out after each dance. Though the montage had me a little worried that Monica isn't quite up to the dance challenge. Two observations: first is that she was a little stiff while dancing, and the second is that she bears a striking resemblance to Canadian royalty Celine Dion. Bruno made a Grace Adler joke, and Debra Messing is probably on the phone trying to get on next season. Monica has elegance but needs to work on using the space.

Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony - The Cha Cha Cha
Good thing Tony wants to have fun because I love Marissa, but I think she'll be voted out pretty fast. She sure does smile and run around a lot. I love that we finally know that Broadway dancing isn't real dancing (take that certain college friends of mine, you know who you are). Yeah, there is no escaping the Broadway because Marissa sure performed like she is on stage. Oh, and I got to see Ricki Lake; I miss her show. Carrie Ann tore her apart, basically she has the energy but not the dancing skills. Len told her she has a lot of untapped talent. Bruno just said something I couldn't understand, probably for the best. Oh, and I am trying so hard to just not say anything about Samantha Harris, but it is so very hard.
I really hope Len tells her she isn't showing enough emotion, to which she'll respond, "I can't!" I'm going to give her some credit for being the...most aged female dancer in the show's history. That takes a lot of guts. She really has a lot of personality; let's hope she lets it shine through. She has to get extra points for being used as a mop on the floor - that spin was pretty nifty. Len liked the fact that it was a very traditional dance, Bruno loved it, and Carrie Ann mentioned the fact that Priscilla is old. That's real helpful Carrie Ann.
Does Kristi have an unfair advantage because of her figure skating background? She doesn't seem to think so, then again nobody has said that they feel ready for dancing. She and Mark sure do make a cute duo, though, but will their dancing back it up? This is the first dance that actually looked like ballroom dancing. It was really classic 1940's-type elegance. Something tells me her background sure isn't hurting her right now. Bruno loved her, like more than life itself. Carrie Ann called her perfect, and Len said his heart was melted by her. Yeah, we officially have our frontrunner.
Marlee has the new guy, and I don't like him. I think we're all going to learn a lesson from Marlee. I for one will learn to not make a single joke that will land me in hell. I'll put money on the table saying she is going to do just fine. So far it really doesn't matter if she is hearing the music or not because she is looking mighty fine and dancing like a pro. There were a lot of standing ovations last night, and she deserved it. Carrie Ann called her unbelievable and inspiring; Len called her amazing but she has to control her arms a bit. Bruno pretty much said the same thing, go Marlee!

Alright, so our top two so far are Kristi and Mario. It looks like Monica and Steve will be the first to go, at least that's my prediction. I know who I'm voting for, let us know who your early favorites are and I'll catch you all next week. Also, check out our Jason Taylor's post-show interview here.
