LOS ANGELES (AP) - This game may prove costly for The Game. A man filed a civil suit against the rapper, claiming he assaulted him during a pickup basketball game last year, celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported Friday.

In court documents posted on TMZ, Shannon Rodrick said The Game, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, told him his ''team is garbage'' and ''sucker-punched'' him, causing him to fall backward.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in Superior Court alleges that Taylor went to his vehicle to get a gun and approached Rodrick saying, ''I'm going to blast this fool.''

Taylor served eight days in jail this month after pleading no contest to felony possession of a firearm in a school zone.

Rodrick's suit, which alleges assault, battery, a civil rights violation and negligence, seeks unspecified damages.

A phone message left Friday with Taylor's agent was not immediately returned.
