R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe is on crutches after injuring his foot in a go-karting accident. The rocker has been left hobbling around New York after getting his limb trapped under a kart.

He tells magazine Interview, "I was go-kart racing and I had a crash. I was pinned for several minutes under another go-kart and it screwed up my right foot. It's going to be fine, I'm sure. But man, hobbling around New York City on crutches in the snow and the rain - it's really something, let me tell you.

"People are nice until they have a few drinks, and then they just run you over. That's happened to me several times."
