Since the French band Air hit the music scene a few years ago with their hypnotizing electronica, no other act from France has been able to hit the waves to make much of an impact here - until now. Let us introduce you to French Pop chanteuse Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Born in England and raised in France, Gainsbourg has acquired quite a following in Europe. She was conceived by entertainment royalty as she is the daughter of famed British actress Jane Birkin and French composer/singer Serge Gainsbourg.

Gainsbourg has been involved in the entertainment industry since the 1980s. After spending her most recent years solidifying her acting prowess Gainsbourg turned to expand on her second genetic birthright - music. With the latest release of her second full-length recording, "5:55" which was recorded mostly in English, Gainsbourg received international acclaim.

Finding her own niche, Gainsbourg's singing style and music can be best described as evocative, sexy, serious, witty, melodic, and at times melancholic. Her songs and lyrics are metaphoric, personal, and are delivered in light whispery conversational tones. It is as if you are in her personal space and sharing it with her at that given particular moment as she is singing.

For "5:55" Gainsbourg worked with the band Air, the lead singer Jarvis Cocker of Pulp, and Neil Hannon. It is definitely not the last that we will hear of Charlotte Gainsbourg.
