Oscar nominee Julie Christie was in the mood for making a point at the Academy Awards on Sunday, calling for the closure of military detention camp Guantanamo Bay.

The Away From Her star was among the celebrities wearing an orange ribbon on her red carpet gown - and she was more than happy to explain its significance amid the glitz and glamor.

She revealed, "It's the American Civil Liberties Union campaign to close Guantanamo (Bay), so it's a very, very important issue... It's affecting the whole world."

The prison camp located in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base was opened in 2002 on the shore of Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. The detainees held there are classified by U.S. officials as enemy combatants.
