"You never know when you might be standing on a stage and there's an available mic. Maverick British moviemaker Tony Kaye on why he brought a guitar to the Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, California. Kaye wasn't the only celebrity who hit the red carpet with a guitar - Once star Glen Hansard also brought his instrument with him for a performance during the ceremony with co-star Marketa Irglova.

"I'm usually pretty confrontational but they've medicated me heavily." Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody on her calm demeanor on the red carpet.

"I won an award in 2000 for Happy, Texas and I wasn't here. I was having a baby." Award nominee Steve Zahn was hoping for another win at Saturday's event.

"I'm usually drunk by the first half of it." Don Cheadle on why he's a big fan of the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

"It's kind of cruel to make a pregnant lady waddle that far." Cate Blanchett upon winning her Award for Best Supporting Actress on Saturday.

"He is charming, ruggedly handsome, talented, speaks five languages; I wanna f--- him so hard." Host Rainn Wilson was all love as he presented the 2008 event's honorary chairman and Best Director presenter Javier Bardem onto the tented stage at the Santa Monica, California ceremony.

"One thing I'd like to get off my chest: I did f--- Javier Bardem and Philip Seymour Hoffman is the product of our union. I hope you understand I mean that Metaphorically." Dustin Hoffman ended Saturday's Film Independent Spirit Awards with a hilarious revelation, before urging his 'son' to "take a bow."
