French actress Marion Cotillard has continued Europe's success at the 2008 Oscars by claiming the event's Best Actress prize for her stunning portrayal of Edith Piaf in La vie en rose.
The actress was a clear favorite to win the honor, but she still appeared shaken and surprised as she collected her award at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
Fighting back tears of joy, Cotillard said, "It's true, there are some angels in this city."
She joined Spaniard Javier Bardem and Brit Tilda Swinton among the early European winners at the 80th Academy Awards.
