Missy Higgins' New Album 'On A Clear Night' Due Feb. 26; Tour To Follow
Entertainment Weekly says of Missy, "…shows a depth reminiscent of early Suzanne Vega and Sarah McLachlan: catchy hooks…sounds just right."
Before Missy hits the road in the U.S., she will make two appearances at The Sundance Film Festival, performing at a very special live-music event titled "Where Music Meets Film" celebrating the enduring connection between music and film alongside artists such as Josh Groban, Jason Mraz, Michelle Branch, Eisley, Tyler Hilton and Jack's Mannequin.
The stunning first single, "Where I Stood," has already been featured prominently on the CW's Smallville and on the Thanksgiving edition of ABC's hit dramedy Grey's Anatomy, among others. Both shows have been pivotal in breaking new artists over recent years. The album has also received early accolades and Paste Magazine calls it, "heartfelt and insanely melodic."
Missy's music is also already receiving serious support from influential L.A. tastemaker Nic Harcourt via his "Morning Becomes Eclectic" program on KCRW. This is also helping build anticipation for the stateside release of "On A Clear Night" in February. Cities like San Francisco, San Diego, and Minneapolis have already added the track a month before release.
Currently, you can hear some of Missy's music at www.missyhiggins.com and www.myspace.com/missyhiggins, and videos for "Steer," "Where I Stood," and "Peachy" can be seen at www.youtube.com.
Missy Higgins', On A Clear Night, retains the irresistible melodies and piercing lyrics of her critically lauded debut The Sound of White, which was Australia's best-selling album of 2005. However this time around, the tracks benefit from the production of Mitchell Froom (Elvis Costello, Crowded House) and see a more confident and self-aware outlook as befits a young woman who is finding her way in the world.
On A Clear Night has already been certified triple platinum in Australia and seen Missy awarded the 2007 ARIA Award (Australia's Grammy) as the country's "Best Female Artist" for two years in a row. It has yielded a #1 and a top 10 single with "Steer" and "Where I Stood."
In the past, Missy has toured the U.S. with the likes of Howie Day, Jason Mraz, Liz Phair, and Ray Lamontagne and her live shows have been pivotal in establishing her fanbase. Missy will therefore be hitting the road in North America with more dates to follow.
