Kenny G: 'Arista Only Wanted Covers Albums'

Kenny GSaxophonist Kenny G parted ways with label Arista Records after 25 years because he was tired of recording other artists' music.

The jazz musician has been releasing albums of cover songs since 2002 - and decided to leave the firm in favor of specialist label Concord Records after executives refused to allow him to record his own compositions for his next LP.

He says, "I was with Arista forever, and Clive (Davis, record producer) was like family to me. But I wanted to do an album of original material, and that wasn't what they wanted me to do. I personally wanted to get back to my roots and explore creative things. Also, I think people are tired of cover records and they are hungry for original music."
