In a year haunted by the impending writers' strike and its eventual actuality, teeming reality television and faltering awards shows, 2007 still managed to bring a few stars to the forefront. Some are familiar faces that finally broke through, while some are previous nobodies that are sure to become Hollywood royalty.
So now, here are a few of Starpulse's favorite breakout stars of 2007:
The star of the wildly successful "Juno
," 20-year-old Ellen Page proves that beauty as well as brains and wit still have a place in Hollywood. Hailing from Halifax, Canada, Page was perfect for Diablo Cody's intelligent and hilarious title character. She's now a Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated actress, and we can't wait to see what she does next.
You might think reality TV is the bane of creativity, but there's no denying that Lauren Conrad of MTV's "The Hills
" is now a bona fide star. More than four million fans tuned in during 2007 to watch Conrad play, well, herself (at least we think), and it seems that her reality-TV brand isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
After "My Humps," there was "London Bridges." "Glamorous." "Fergalicious." "Big Girls Don't Cry." "Clumsy." At the end of 2007, the former Black Eyed Peas
' singer found that her album's fourth top 10 single of the year was still rising on the charts. She may have been around for a while, but 2007 was Fergie's year.
The cast of
"High School Musical
The group that made "High School Musical" a phenomenon went through a lot in 2007. They rocketed from nobodys to tabloid fixations (hello, Zac Efron
), from adorable, dimple-cheeked Hilary Duffs
in-the-making to sex symbols (naked photos of Vanessa Hudgens
, anyone?). The point is, these singing and dancing young actors became bona fide stars in 2007, and will likely follow in the footsteps of other successful Disney graduates.
In 2007, Seth Rogen became the poster boy for no-frills, overnight success. He's the anti-Hollywood playboy; his acting always seems naturally hilarious, and the public has been quick to notice. In "Knocked Up
" and "Superbad
," (which he co-wrote), Rogan rose to unarguable stardom.
Blake Lively rose to the forefront in 2007 as "Gossip Girl's
" reformed bad-girl Serena Van Der Woodsen. The young actress has the face, style and acting chops to be the next "It" girl, all wrapped into a well-behaved, humble package. 2008 will surely bring her insurmountable success. Let's just hope the whole well-behaved, humble thing doesn't transform into tabloid-fodder.
Shia Labeouf is the latest Disney child star to reach adult star status, and something tells us his success will rival even Hilary Duff's. He starred in hits "Transformers
" and "Disturbia
," and is slated to appear in this year's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
