Fall Out Boy star Pete Wentz is hoping to use his band's popularity to support democratic candidate Barack Obama in the upcoming presidential elections. Wentz, 28, has agreed to host a fundraising gala next Tuesday.
The event at Chicago's Lakeview Broadcasting Company will see Wentz's Fall Out Boy band-mate Patrick Stump DJing and attendees will all receive a free t-shirt designed by the star himself.
The bassist concedes that many of the band's supporters are under the legal voting age of 18 but hopes they will encourage their parents to vote for Obama in the elections on November 4th.
He says, "If we had the speeches or the momentum of Oprah, we'd probably have done something else. But given that many fans of ours are under the age of 18, we decided that convincing their parents to get involved monetarily, or by canvassing neighborhoods, is probably the best."
