Oscar winner Forest Whitaker is to portray the heroic basketball coach who led his Louisiana high school team to the state championships in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

The Last King of Scotland star has signed up to play Al Collins in Patriots.

Against all the odds, Collins drove the John Ehret High School team to glory, despite the fact many of his players had been left homeless by the 2005 natural disaster.
