Tom Hanks Quits Directing For His Family

Tom HanksHollywood star Tom Hanks will never direct another movie, because it would mean spending too much time away from his family. The actor has turned his hand to directing on a variety of occasions - taking charge of 1996 movie That Thing You Do!, 2001 TV mini-series Band of Brothers, and more recently directing new film A Wilderness of Monkeys, which is due for release later this year.

However Hanks, 51, insists the film will be his final directing venture as he would prefer to be at home with his children. He says, "I'd like to direct again, but I can't. It'd take me away from my kids, and that'd be inexcusable."

Hanks has two grown-up children, Colin, 30, and Elizabeth-Ann, 26, with ex-wife Samantha Lewes, who he divorced in 1987. The star went on to marry Rita Wilson in 1988 and the couple has two sons, Chester, 17, and Truman, 12.
