Kate Nash At Amoeba: 'The Cutest Show Ever'

January 16th, 2008 3:22pm EST  Post a comment

Kate NashKate Nash is the newest quirky female pop star from the UK. A great first single "Foundations" and a super sweet video scored her debut album "Made of Bricks" a number one debut in the UK in the summer of 07.

It was only a month ago when this album was released in the United States, and it has already made an impact, at least in the greater LA area. If you were one of the 700+ people at Amoeba in Hollywood on January 14 and saw Kate Nash performing, then you know you saw what can be summed up as the cutest show ever.

Kate Nash

Kate Nash is a fine performer. She sang her songs, she wore a cute dress, and she giggled - all of that was good. But what really made this performance so much fun were all the girls dressed up in their thrift store penny loafers and urban outfitters dresses, singing along to playful tunes about guys checking out their bums.

It brought me back to a better time when music was fun and you wrote out your favorite lyrics on your school notebooks. Today, when the kids have Soulja Boy and "High School Musical" to choice from, it's comforting to know that an artist like Kate Nash is breaking through.

Overall, I think the performance could have been better. There was a lack of banter and interaction that you would have almost expected from Kate since she is so cute and sweet! I'm going to chalk it up to nerves and the fact that she's just being a newbie on the block.

She played the piano backed by a three-piece band. "We Get On", "Birds" and "Foundations" were probably the best songs, and they got the best response from the crowd. I look forward to a future tour when she has found herself on stage and knows how to grab her audience.
