Kid Rock has lent his support to the ownership of firearms in the home - insisting it's the ultimate defense against criminals. The 36-year-old rocker - real name Robert Ritchie - has become a passionate gun collector, having been raised in an environment where rifles were an essential part of family life.

He says, "I'm really into firearms, I know how to use them. I was raised around them. I think that's really a deterrent." The star's collection consists of Tommy guns, AR-15 assault rifles, gold-plated Desert Eagles and the "standard 9mm Ruger".

He adds, "I've got Dillingers and a cannon from 1858. I'm really into Civil War artifacts." Despite Rock's impressive haul, he admits he's lacking ability in the art of rifle-stripping - so he enlists his "people" to take care of that particular duty. He says, "I'm the lead singer - I can get people to do that for me."
