XanaduThe first smash hit of the 2007-2008 season proved to be one of the biggest surprises in Broadway history: Xanadu, which roller-skated its way into the hearts of critics and audiences alike.

Xanadu began previews on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre on May 23, 2007, officially opened on June 26, 2007, and is still playing to enthusiastic crowds today. PS Classics will release the Original Broadway Cast Recording, produced by Grammy Award-winner Jeffrey Lesser, on January 8, 2008.

XanaduA hilariously reinvented send-up of the 1980 Olivia Newton-John film flop, this irreverent musical adventure, helmed for Broadway by director Christopher Ashley, spins along to the addictive original hit film score by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. Xanadu follows the beautiful Greek Muse Clio, who time-travels to Venice Beach, CA in 1980 to induce an uninspired artist, Sonny, to build the first roller disco.

When she falls in love with him, chaos and fun abound, skate wheels turn and disco balls twirl. The updated script by 2007 Tony Award-nominee Douglas Carter Beane takes the plot and dialogue to knee-slapping extremes, while the legendary chart-topping tunes (including "Magic," "Evil Woman," "Suddenly," "All Over the World," "Don't Walk Away," "Have You Never Been Mellow?" and "Xanadu") get a musical theatre makeover via a stellar company of performers.

"Heaven on wheels! Outlandishly enjoyable and irresistible!" - The New York Times
"Glamrock-meets-disco-meets-faux classical -- a guilt-free pleasure!" - Variety
"A bang-up job at entertainment! Enormously ingratiating!" - Associated Press

The Broadway production showcases a cast of much-celebrated musical theatre performers at the top of their game, including Kerry Butler (Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, Bat Boy) as Clio; Cheyenne Jackson (All Shook Up, Aida, Thoroughly Modern Millie) as Sonny; Tony Award-nominee Tony Roberts (Play It Again Sam, Victor/Victoria, Barefoot in the Park) as Danny Maguire and comic geniuses Mary Testa and Jackie Hoffman as Melpomene and Calliope, respectively. Curtis Holbrook, Anika Larsen, Kenita Miller, André Ward and Marty Thomas round out the multi-tasking ensemble.

Founded in 2000 by Tommy Krasker & Philip Chaffin, PS CLASSICS has made significant contributions to the heritage of American popular song through its critically acclaimed cast recordings (including Grey Gardens and Company, the London revival of Sunday in the Park With George, arriving on Broadway in Jan., 2008, and Grammy-nominated albums of Assassins and Nine: The Musical); solo albums by Lauren Kennedy, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley & Marin Mazzie, and Rebecca Luker; and recordings drawn from rare sound archives, including Sondheim Sings.
