Sting Slammed For 'Excessive Carbon Footprint'
January 9th, 2008 9:20am EST Post a comment Add to My News
Eco-activist Sting has been criticized by environmental campaigners - for creating a massive carbon footprint with his band The Police at the Live Earth concert. The group reformed to tour last year, and made an appearance at the Al Gore-organized event in the summer which aimed to battle climate change.
However The Police have been singled out as the worst offenders in the music industry - beaten by more eco-friendly acts such as British rockers Babyshambles and Radiohead, who were deemed the greenest band by British magazine NME.
John Buckley, of Carbonfootprint.com, says, "At Live Earth in New Jersey where the Police played, the biggest emissions weren't from the concert, it was the fans."
