Will SmithWill Smith proved the only man on earth who could top the first international box office chart of 2008 - his I Am Legend beat out competition from The Golden Compass to remain the world's number one film.

I Am Legend, in which Smith plays the last man alive, proved the most popular movie in cinemas outside the U.S. after taking a further $34 million. It's total haul now stands at $170.2 million.

The Golden Compass sits at two with $29 million, while sequel National Treasure: Book Of Secrets is at three with $19.1 million.
