Brown Agrees To Donate Appearance Fee After Criticism
Spice Girl Melanie Brown has agreed to donate her $20,000 fee for her personal appearance at a charity event after she was criticized by the event's fundraisers.
The star was taking part in a Christmas sing-a-long at London department store Selfridges on Monday, raising money for the Make-A-Wish foundation, an organization for terminally ill children.
Brown - who brought along husband Stephen Belafonte for the event - was paid to sing festive hits such as Santa Claus Is Coming To Town with the public, before taking a collection bucket around the assembled crowd.
A source tells British newspaper the News Of The World, "All Mel B did was sing a couple of Christmas songs, sign autographs and mingle in with the crowd collecting donations in a plastic bucket. And for that she pocketed £10,000 that should have gone to needy kids. Many people felt she should have waived her fee. It's the least she could have done to help the needy kids."
However, a spokesperson for Brown has confirmed the sum will now be donated to children's hospitals in the U.S.
