Rupert Everett Is Bitter

December 16th, 2007 1:00pm EST  Post a comment    Read 6 comments

Rupert EverettBritish actor Rupert Everett has launched a scathing attack on Hollywood legends Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, branding them "tragic parodies" of the icons they once were.

The 48-year-old insists the film industry has deteriorated into shallow, celebrity-obsessed "trash" - and blames its biggest players for perpetuating the trend.

He says, "De Niro, (Robert) Redford, (Diane) Keaton, (Woody) Allen, Pacino - they're all just tragic parodies of themselves. Al Pacino looks like a mad old freak now. I say give it a rest, or go and do some serious stuff."

George ClooneyBut the My Best Friend's Wedding star reserves his harshest criticism for American actor George Clooney.

He adds, "Clooney thinks that, provided he does films which are politically committed, he's allowed to do Ocean's 11, 12 and 13. But the Ocean's movies are a cancer to world culture. They're destroying us. He's not the brightest spark on the boulevard. He'll be president one day. Mark my words, if he's straight, he'll be president."
