The plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye West's mother the day before she died has agreed to pay compensation to a former patient, who is suing him for medical malpractice. Lori Ufondu has accused Dr. Jan Adams of leaving a sponge inside her during a surgery in 1996.

She is demanding an undisclosed sum as compensation for the complications he allegedly caused.

Adams has already made one payment to his former patient and will continue to do so until April of next year, when the parties will meet again, reports TMZ.com.

Ufondu won a judgment against Adams in excess of $100,000 but was reportedly never paid. Adams appeared in court last month to answer questions about his assets, but was so late to the hearing that the judge issued a warrant for his arrest. He eventually showed and the warrant was recalled.

The Los Angeles-based surgeon has been in hitting the headlines ever since he gave Dr. Donda West a tummy tuck and breast reduction the day before she died on November 10.
