Tom SelleckTom Selleck considered quitting the movie business after watching film fans crush a dog to death during a stampede at a movie premiere in Paris. The star was promoting 1983 film High Road To China in the French capital, when 20,000 fans of the star surged towards him and police failed to hold them back.

Selleck says, "In the madness, a dog was killed - trampled to death - and it really disturbed me. I wasn't scarred from it, but it informed me so much about where this business could go. I was so disturbed I remember saying to my agent, 'If this is what it's like, I've got to find another line of work. It's mad.' It affected my choices and made me more guarded."
