Sean Penn, Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte have added their signatures to a campaign to end a ban on exchange between American and Cuban artists. Hundreds of campaigners, also including authors Alice Walker and Cristina Garcia and Buena Vista Social Club musician Ry Cooder, signed a letter sent to President George W. Bush this week.
The letter reads, "We are writing you as representatives of the cultural sphere in the U.S. We write you as American citizens. We write to express our dismay at your administration's continuing hostility towards Cuba. We write to express our opposition to policies that keep us divided from our Cuban counterparts."
An embargo on all trade between the U.S and Cuba was enforced in 1961.
