Long-standing rumors about Tom Cruise's sexuality have been smashed by a private detective who has been trying to find out if the movie star is secretly gay for six years.

Former porn star Paul Barresi has been digging around in Cruise's private life since 2001, but he has found nothing to suggest the star has a secret gay life. Handing over all his research to British author Andrew Morton, who has been collecting information for a new explosive tome on Cruise, Barresi says, "Everything I've found, and everything I know, points to Tom being heterosexual."

Barresi tells In Touch Weekly magazine he started his investigation as Cruise's marriage to Nicole Kidman was coming to an end and two gay porn stars were making allegations about the movie hunk.

The private investigator interviewed one of the porn stars who was alleging Cruise was gay, and concluded he was "lying through his teeth".

Barresi adds, "There hasn't been one piece of solid evidence to prove that he's gay."
