Kanye West's mother passed away on Saturday after suffering "complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure", it has been revealed. The Champion rapper was in London when he heard of his beloved mom Dr. Donda West's death, and immediately caught a plane back to Los Angeles.

The 58-year-old's publicist, Patricia Green, confirmed the cause of death but refused to give further details.

Dr. West used to work as her son's manager and earlier this year, released a book called Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star, about the rap superstar's childhood and her experiences as his manager.

Dr. West was also the chairwoman of the Kanye West Foundation, a non-profit organization which aims to improve literacy and reduce school drop out rates in the U.S.

Of West's philanthropy, Green adds: "May Donda's work and deeds be an inspiration to each of us, may we start each day knowing that support of family and community are central to purpose."

The West family has asked for the media to respect their privacy "during this time of grief."
