'South Park' Weekly Commentary: Episode 1113 - Guitar Queer-O

Stan and Kyle both pitch in for Guitar Hero and play for their friends and the simulated cheers of a crazy rock crowd. They score 100,000 points and are proclaimed true guitar hero rock stars. An eager manager, hunting for new talent (you can tell he's eager by those perfect blonde sideburns), shows up at the door, wanting to sign the boys.
As with any rock tale, things begin to turn sour. Kyle is replaced with a better guitar heroist on a mission to hit 1 million points. Stan, having lost a friend, turns to another video game, Heroine Hero (where you shoot up simulated heroine, chasing after a purple dragon that you never catch). Loosing sleep and practice to virtual heroine, Stan looses his manager, his new band mate, and finds himself alone, wanting only to play with Kyle again.

In the end, Stan realizes it wasn't about the points, but it was all about the time he spent with his best friend having fun. Stan and Kyle mend broken ties and decide to go for the 1 million goal together.
I have seen the phenomenon that is Guitar Hero. It's at parties and kickbacks. Usually, two people take over and battle for 2 hours or so. Don't get me wrong, its fun and damn entertaining to watch, but do not confuse it for the real thing. I'm a gamer myself. I even break out the original Nintendo and play Ninja Turtles III every so often. Old school games, 8-bit and 16-bit pieces of perfection that still hold a special place in my heart, are my favorite to play. With today's games, the hyper realism makes it very easy to get lost in, and you might soon forget to go outside and mingle with the living and the breathing.
