Prince Charles Cancels The 'Brick Lane' Gala
The novel, which was nominated for the 2003 Booker Prize, follows the story of a Bangladeshi woman sent to London for an arranged marriage. But following protests by Brick Lane residents while filming of the adaptation commenced, the October 29th gala screening has been canceled.
Prince Charles spokesperson says, "There has been quite a lot of controversy about that film which everyone was aware of. At the start, it had been one of a number of films proposed. None of the films and none of the dates worked."
The film will now make its U.K. premiere at the London Film Festival on October 26th.
