Socialite Paris Hilton has been banned from an annual beer celebration in Germany. Hilton, 26, appeared at last year's Oktoberfest as part of a promotion to advertise a regional wine maker, dressed in traditional Bavarian costume.

However organizers at this year's event have barred alcohol brands from using celebrities to push their wares. Gabrielle Weishaeupl, of the city's tourist board, explains celebrity promotions "are completely prohibited by the new festival rules."
