Rapper Kanye West
's MTV boycott was sparked when Video Music Awards bosses persuaded him to perform in a Las Vegas hotel suite and then gave Britney Spears
the chance to open the show.
Reports suggest West stormed out of the event after failing to win any of the five awards he was nominated for, but the rap star insists he's not that petty.
After pulling out of an appearance alongside rap rival 50 Cent
on MTV's Total Request Live show on Tuesday, the Gold Digger
hitmaker revealed he means to follow through on his threat to blacklist the network - because they disrespected him in Las Vegas.
He says, "It was always my dream to open the awards show with (hit) Stronger
and they talked me into doing a suite thing, and when they had Britney open, I said, 'How are you gonna have Britney open, because she's not ready.' We've been touring across the world giving to the audience that deserve it, you know what I'm saying. I wouldn't have been mad if they opened with Fall Out Boy
or they opened with Timbaland
... They told me, 'That theatre stage, it don't look good, you don't wanna perform there.' But you know me, I need that big stage."
