Legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock has topped a poll naming the greatest directors of all time.

The Psycho director beat out competition from Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, in second and third places respectively, in the rundown of top filmmakers in British magazine Total Film.

Rounding out the top five are Howard Hawks and Francis Ford Coppola.
