Eli Roth Horror director Eli Roth has a twisted teen to thank for his cult hit Hostel - because the film fan encouraged his rich dad to invest in the low-budget project. Roth admits he fell $700,000 short of completing the film when movie authorities in North Carolina "shut down" the project - and was desperate to raise the cash he needed.

Roth recalls, "I was calling everyone I knew for cash and maxing out credit cards all the way through editing. It actually came down to an investor showing the film to his kid in order to make up his mind whether to invest or not. Fortunately, the kid loved the film."
