Jazz singer Jon Lucien died of respiratory failure in Orlando, Florida on Saturday. He was 65. The musician had been suffering from kidney problems for several years and received a kidney transplant two years ago.
After growing up in the British Virgin Islands and St. Thomas, Lucien moved to New York City as a teenager and started playing in bands at family parties.
He was signed to RCA after a record executive heard him perform at a wedding.
During his career, he had hits with Would You Believe in Me, Lady Love and Dindi.
He is survived by his wife Delesa, two sons Hanif Lucien and Jamil Jerome, stepson Mark Lee, daughter Celesa Lucien and two grandchildren.
Lucien's two other daughters Zeudi Jacira and Dalila were tragically killed in a Long Island plane crash in 1996.
