Jazz pianist Sal Mosca has died from complications brought on by emphysema. He was 80. Mosca passed away at a hospital in White Plains, New York on July 28. Born Salvatore Joseph Mosca on 27 April 1927, he worked with jazz greats like Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday.
In the early 1980s, he stopped performing live to focus on teaching instead, although he began playing sporadic concerts again in recent years.
Mosca is survived by a daughter, two sons and seven grandchildren.
