Ugly Betty star Eric Mabius has leaped to the defense of maligned style queen Victoria Beckham, urging the media to "leave her alone." The Spice Girl provoked a barrage of press abuse when her reality TV show "Victoria Beckham: Coming To America" aired earlier this month.
The show, which documented her move to Los Angeles with husband David and their children, was branded "an orgy of self-indulgence" and its star "relentlessly self-promoting" by the New York Post alone.
Meanwhile, scrutiny of Beckham's weight and jibes at her sour-faced expressions have dominated British tabloids and magazines for years.
But Mabius, who is set to be Beckham's co-star when she guests on fashion series "Ugly Betty" soon, can't understand the bad press.
He tells Us Weekly online, "She catches a lot of flak in the press in England, and I don't know why exactly, because she's a very eloquent, highly functioning, brilliant woman. I went to the UK Glamour awards so I spent a little bit of time with her, and she couldn't have been sweeter and more well-spoken - just cool."
