Singer Deborah Harry has dismissed her reputation as a style icon, insisting the pressure to set trends is frightening. The Blondie star is renowned for her impeccable fashion sense, which is believed to have inspired current trend-setters including supermodel Kate Moss.

However while the attention is flattering, Harry reveals she was alarmed when people first began scrutinizing her wardrobe. She tells London's Time Out magazine, "Just before Blondie got back together I started really noticing that attitude coming from people - the reverence for the image thing - and I was completely shocked by it."

"I hate the word 'icon'. I don't even know what that is, actually. I guess it's a bit like a trademark so, in that respect, it's successful marketing but, when it first started happening, it was really weird."
