The Departed star Vera Fermiga is considering becoming a goatherder for a living after reading up on raising the animals. The actress owns four Nubian and Angora goats and makes cheese from their milk when she's not working on a movie - and she seriously thinks she could make a living rearing the creatures in upstate New York.
She says, "They're all female; they've never seen a male goat. There's different breeding strategies - artificial insemination... and then there's also the old-fashioned technique, which seems to work really well; you just choose a buck and apparently the buck takes care of the rest. I was online... and there was like online goat dating services - you have the breeders and the herders who advertise their sires and I saw real sexy one."
As well as breeding goats and making goat cheese, Fermiga is also making the most of her shaggy Angoras.
She adds, "I'm a knitter and my boyfriend bought me a portable spinning wheel that I take on sets from time to time. He got two sweaters from the last job I did."
