Celia CruzLatin singer Celia Cruz's life will be celebrated with the creation of a Broadway musical set to open this September. Celia: A Musical Journey is predicted to break the mould of previous unsuccessful Latin-themed musicals because of the late singer's international fame.

Veteran director Susana Tubert says, "In my experience, biographical musicals have to rise above the anecdote of a person's biography and have a compelling element many can relate to, that's what's going to make it cross over into an audience that may or may not know the icon."

The musical will be directed by Jaime Azpilicueta, whose credits include Spanish versions of My Fair Lady and Evita, and the role of Cruz will be played by unknown actress Xiomara Laugart.

The Cuban singer died in 2003 of a brain tumor.
