Pop superstar Justin Timberlake was beaten up as a teenager "for being white". The Sexyback singer claims he walked away from the incident - which happened when he was 13 and living in Memphis, Tennessee - with a black eye, broken ribs and a new outlook on life.

He tells the U.K. edition of Cosmopolitan, "The hard part was trying to understand why it happened. Then you get to a point where you have to let it go. When you come through on the other side, you're a much stronger person."
