The wife of actor Jeremy Irons has been reunited with the son she gave up for adoption almost 40 years ago.

Irish stage actress Sinead Cusack gave biological son, Richard Boyd Barrett, up for adoption in 1968 - ten years before she married Golden Globe-winning Irons.

Since they were reunited, Cusack, 59, has been campaigning for Barrett - who ran as a candidate in yesterday's Irish elections.

She says, "It was wonderful to be reunited with him. "I'm very happy, very proud."
