Busta RhymesBusta Rhymes has settled a $100,000 lawsuit filed by a fan, which claimed the rapper assaulted him. Melvin Smith accused the hip-hop star and his bodyguard Troy Green of assaulting him after he approached Busta Rhymes asking for an autograph in a Manhattan sandwich shop in 2005.

Smith claimed he needed four stitches after he was punched near the eye by the rapper, whose real name is Trevor Smith.

In January, a New York judge ruled both men were civilly liable for the incident and ordered the Touch It hitmaker to pay $100,000.

Rhymes decided to settle the suit on Monday, just one day before he was due to return to Manhattan Supreme Court in an attempt to have the judgment thrown out.

The lawsuit is just one of a string of assault cases for the rap star.

Rhymes is set to stand trial in July for the alleged assault of his driver last December and a fan on Randall's Island, New York last July.

Earlier this month, the hip-hop star was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired and driving while intoxicated.
