Bryan Adams Makes A Tremendous Soccer Faux Pas
May 11th, 2007 9:44am EDT Post a comment Add to My News Canadian rocker Bryan Adams upset bitter Manchester United soccer fans at his concert on Tuesday when he invited a follower of a rival team to duet on stage with him. The Please Forgive Me singer was performing at Manchester's M.E.N. Arena when he unwittingly selected a Liverpool Football Club (F.C.) supporter to sing with him.
Manchester United have only just been knocked out of the Champion's League, while their arch-rivals Liverpool F.C. will go on to play A.C. Milan in the League's final in Athens, Greece on May 23rd.
One concert goer says, "Being Canadian, Adams probably didn't appreciate the bitter rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool. Unluckily for him, he chose a Liverpudlian woman to sing with him and she wasted no time rubbing fans' noses in it, chanting, 'Athens here we come!' "
"The mood in the Mancunian audience immediately turned very hostile and the place was suddenly filled with deafening boos. Adams didn't quite understand what he'd inadvertently caused, but looked embarrassed."
