'Dukes Of Hazzard' Car Sells For $9.9 Million
Schneider's production partner Michael Barnard, who helped set up the sale, says, "It appears Schneider's auction falls just below the highest auto auction in history - the $11 million sale of a 1931 Bugatti by Christie's auction house in 1987. The eBay site of the General Lee auction received over one million hits during its week on the block. We knew it would be popular but none of us imagined we'd be selling a $10 million car. It's extraordinary."
Barnard is currently making sure the winning bid is for real after he was duped by a $6 million offer at the beginning of the week.
He adds, "It's a huge fraud if it is bogus because this auction has been watched by eBay and by our bank. We're pretty sure this is for real."
The sale will now fund a sequel to Schneider's Hot Pursuit film. The actor says, "Collier & Co 2 is in the bank. It just proves that when you clean out your garage, be very, very careful about what you throw away."
