Bloc PartyBritish rockers Bloc Party nearly turned down the opportunity to play at this year's Live Earth concert, because they are wary of charity gigs. Bassist Gordon Moakes says the decision to play at the London leg of the event, which will take place at Wembley Stadium this July, did not come lightly.

He says, "I'm a bit wary of the idea, it's almost like an easy option. That's the danger - the fatigue that goes with seeing a really high-profile gig being televised, not thinking what it's about.

"I'm whole-heartedly behind the idea that it's to raise consciousness, not money. It's an important cause to get behind."

Other acts already confirmed to perform at the concert to raise awareness about global warming include rockers the Foo Fighters, Razorlight and Snow Patrol.
