Hugh GrantBritish screenwriter Richard Curtis did not want Hugh Grant to play the lead role in his breakout movie Four Weddings And A Funeral, according to the actor. Grant claims the film's creator did not want him for the part of Charles, opposite Andie Macdowell's Carrie in the 1994 blockbuster and says he failed to impress the BAFTA winning writer during his audition.

He says, "There was only one person who looked really miserable - the guy wearing glasses sitting at the back. That was Richard Curtis.

"He never wanted me, he wanted someone else. But you'll have to ask him about that."

Curtis went on to collaborate with Grant in hit movies Notting Hill and Love Actually.
