Kurt Russell Missed Out On Certain Films Because Of Don Johnson
Russell admits he was always in contention for low-budget action movies, but he often lost out on roles to Johnson. And, though he's well aware he wasn't Tarantino's first choice to play villain Stuntman Mike in Planet Terror, he's delighted he can now, at last, add a 'grindhouse' project to his resume.
Russell says, "I interviewed for quite a few of those movies so it's interesting for me to sort of hook up with Quentin on this because we talked about some of the great grindhouse films, many of which I was going up for.
"There was just a group of guys like, for instance, Don Johnson, who I know did Macon County Line or Return To Macon County Line (editor's note: it was 1975 film Return To Macon County). Because of my age, I'm sure that's something I probably was up for at the time. That was a grindhouse movie.
"That was a movie that played around those theatres. That was an example. They weren't necessarily slasher films and they weren't necessarily horror films. They were all different kinds of shows."
