frontman Anthony Lovato
will not face charges over his fatal stabbing of a love rival on Sunday. Wayne Hughes, 25, died in a Mission Hills, California hospital following an early morning clash with 26-year-old Lovato in a Studio City apartment parking lot. Lovato claimed Hughes - who was dating Lovato's ex-girlfriend - was attacking him so he pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed Hughes in self-defense.
After the fight, Lovato surrendered himself to police and was jailed on suspicion of murder. He was released on Tuesday.
However, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles district attorney says, "There was insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the killing was not a justified use of force in self-defense."
The spokeswoman added the two men had been dating the same woman "back and forth for over a year".
Following Lovato's release from jail, he said, "I'm not doing too good. I just had the hardest three days of my life."
Mest, who were signed to Madonna's Maverick Records, split in 2006 after 10 years together.
